Over the past forty five years, the long-lasting historical relations, solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two countries of Viet Nam and Cambodia have been consolidated and fostered to become the common valuable asset. The people of the two countries supported and assisted each others in the years of arduous struggle against colonialism and imperialism for independence and freedom. The Vietnamese people and army joined the Cambodian revolutionary forces in overthrowing the Polpot genocidal regime and winning victory for Cambodia.

With the motto “Good neighborhood, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and sustainability”,  over the past years, bilateral political and diplomatic relations have been consolidated and developed through high-level visit exchanges, meetings and dialogues at ministry and branch levels which confirm the aspiration and determination to enhance bilateral relations. This has been considered an important factor that ensures the success of the cause of national construction and defense of each country. Both sides have closely coordinated in international and regional forums.

Given good political relations and mutual preferential policies, cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment and tourism has also developed and become an indispensable factor of friendship and cooperative relations. Trade turnover of the two countries has unceasingly increased since 2005 to reach US$ 2.8 billion in 2011. In the next five years, both sides strive to increase two-way trade turnover to US$ 5 billion.

Attention has been paid to investment. Viet Nam has boast more than 100 investment projects in Cambodia with a total capital of more than US$ 2.2 billion, becoming one of the biggest investors in Cambodia. Cooperation in security and defense has also been strengthened on the basis of commitment not to allow any hostile force to use its territory to threaten other country’s security. The two sides have closely coordinated to plant marker posts on land border.

The consolidated relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia will meet the aspiration of the two peoples and contribute to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world./.
