President Ho Chi Minh represented the quality, morality and sense of purpose and uprightness of the Vietnamese people and the Communist Party of Vietnam. Moral education and building a good lifestyle according to Ho Chi Minh’s thought and morality are an urgent demand and a basic and long-term task. Accelerating this task among Party members, Government officials and the people in the new period are to awake and promote fine traditional moral values, struggle against the depravation of morality and lifestyle and prevent and stop red tape, corruption, waste of public property and other social evils. It is also aimed at forming and developing socialist moral values and building a socialist Vietnamese people who have a fine personality, a firm political foundation and a civilised lifestyle leading towards the building of healthy and progressive social relations. The 12^th meeting of the 9^th Party CC decided to pilot a campaign to learn and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh among Party members, Government officials and people and draw experiences for the Politburo to issue an instruction on launching a major campaign after the 10^th National Party Congress. On Nov. 7, 2006, the 10^th Party CC issued Instruction No. 06 on launching the nation-wide campaign to learn and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh. The campaign was aimed at making the entire Party, people and army understand the contents and major position, role and value of Ho Chi Minh’s moral example in the spiritual life of Vietnam’s society. It also aimed to generate strong changes in all branches, levels, localities and individuals in their awareness and obligation to learn and follow Ho Chi Minh’s moral example while realising Resolutions of the 10^th National Party Congress and the Party CC, launching a nation-wide movement to learn Ho Chi Minh’s example to improve oneself, particularly among Party officials and members, Government officials, youths and students against depravation of political thought, morality and lifestyle and prevent social evils. This is a large political activity within the Party, the political system and the entire society, which has been carried out over a long period of time with diverse, concrete and practical contents. This is a main measure to successfully realise Resolutions of the 10^th National Party Congress and the 10^th Party CC, an important political motivation to strengthen the Party and the nation in the new development process. Its success depends, first of all, on the awareness, sense of responsibility, determination to act and strict and regular guidance of Party committees at all levels, self-conscious efforts of each Party official and member and support of the entire people. This is the second year we have put into practice Resolutions of the 10^th National Party Congress. Vietnam will have opportunities to advance in the coming year although challenges and difficulties remain. It is an urgent demand for our nation now to snatch opportunities in order to overcome challenges, and make further comprehensive and consistent renewal for a more rapid and sustainable national development. With the pride and profound confidence in the glorious Party and the great President Ho Chi Minh, the entire Party, people and army firmly realise the target of national independence and socialism, strongly promote the glorious tradition of the nation and the Party to steadily advance forward in the renewal, unifying, integration and sustainable development process.
